ISTAT MENUS M1 SUPPORT 1080P
It's 4K at 23.7", so you get macOS 4x rendering of 1080p at retina resolution. This is the main justification for the LG Ultrafine 4K still being $699. Some say the resulting image is improved over a native 27" 1440p display, but it is not retina. You have to scale down to 1440p to get the correct UI size. Buying a non-retina display in 2021 is crazy.Īt the risk of opening a can of worms, 4K at 27" is not retina. It's only a little over the quoted budget but getting retina is totally worth it. I recently bought an LG 27UL850 (4k, 27", USB-c with 60W power delivery).
ISTAT MENUS M1 SUPPORT PRO
I'm less concerned with powering the laptop which might get replaced with the next M1 Macbook Pro and more concerned with charging the AirPods, Beats, KB and mouse. while the hub cost $190, I got the monitor for only $450 (still on sale at Amazon - ), so the savings from buying a non-usb-c monitor paid for ~ 1/2 the hub.Īs a bonus, I've heard that most of these monitors sleep/wake more reliably through straight DisplayPort than USB-C but YMMV. I just ordered a LG 32-U650 32" 4k monitor (I'm gettin' old, the bigger screen will be a blessing) and have my M1 MBA hooked up to a TS3 Plus hub. Most of the time you could probably just use it connected to the monitor as most folks don't run at peak most of the time. Less elegant, but a good stopgap until you can get something like a TS3 Plus hub. Or, if the power delivery is an issue (long sessions at peak performance), get the monitor of your choosing and just plug the MBP in with it's own power adapter. Of course any decent monitor has multiple inputs so you should be able to use it with multiple computers without having to switch plugs. You won't lose too much sharpness if you do that. With a 4K (or higher) monitor you can tell the computer to scale the entire display and get fake higher or lower resolutions. (Of course most documents/content can be scaled.) So a 2560x1440 monitor will make everything on screen very small, and you can't apply a zoom factor or even a larger font to the GUI.
ISTAT MENUS M1 SUPPORT HOW TO
The middle ground is not very inhabitable, as Apple never figured out how to make true resolution independence to work. The trouble is, either you go "retina" or you don't. Or maybe slightly larger but lower resolution ones. I haven't investigated, but I think it's mostly going to be 24" 4K monitors that will hit your price point. I got an HP Z27 last year (4K 27") which has a few issues but is a nice monitor that can charge a laptop over USB-C and of course also provide some power to USB peripherals. It's just for day to day remote support use, Slack, Remote Desktop, email, but I also might occasionally unplug my Macbook Pro from it and plug in an Alienware laptop for occasional gaming. Something higher than 2560 such as 3840x2160 would be nice but I think I can get away with 2560 and still be happy. So far the best option I've found is this: but I was wondering if anyone else has any other suggestions. It would also be nice if the monitor can be rotated or elevated. This would be nice extra but not a definite need. What I'm looking for is a monitor that will support changing of an Apple Wireless Keyboard, Magic Mouse, Airpods, and Beats Headphones.īonus points if it can also charge a 16inch MBP via one cable. Ideally I'd rather keep it closer to $250 but I doubt that's possible. I can't go much bigger due to work space limitations. I'm currently considering purchasing a 26-28 inch monitor but don't want to spend more than $400.
